Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Civil Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will design and oversee both simple and complex engineering projects that include site layout development, grading, drainage, hydraulic calculations, and more. You will also:

  • Create and validate designs for water distribution systems, storage tanks, and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Review designs for compliance with relevant regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Conduct site reviews and studies to ensure that all projects adhere to location specifications.
  • Develop technical documentation and white papers to contribute to firm knowledge management.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to create compelling proposals for potential clients.
  • Engage with clients to assess their design needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Attend industry conferences to elevate the firm’s profile and showcase our services.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth.
  • May supervise junior engineers on specific projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional engineering (PE) license with a minimum of 7 years of related experience.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Heavy Civil projects such as dams, levees, pipelines, and airport infrastructure.

Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in CADD software and engineering design principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulations affecting engineering projects.

CDM Smith reserves the right to conduct background checks as required. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background inspection.

Pay Range: $91,478 - $160,118

Work Location Options: Hybrid work options may be available for the successful candidate.
