Job Title: Entry Level Geotechnical Technician

Job Description

As a Geotechnical Technician, you will engage in subsurface exploration duties using conventional drilling or in-situ testing techniques. This role involves performing tasks related to auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, air rotary, and diamond bit coring techniques. You will work closely with a team to ensure that all work adheres to safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct subsurface exploration using various drilling techniques.
• Perform in-situ testing using equipment such as cone penetration testing (CPT) and seismic cone penetration testing apparatus.
• Assist in the installation of instrumentation, piezometers, and monitor wells.
• Locate exploration points and determine their elevations.
• Develop site reconnaissance information.
• Load soil samples, exploration tools, and instrumentation onto trucks or drill rigs.
• Prepare and review boring logs using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).
• Complete US Department of Transportation (DOT) paperwork as required.
• Provide input on exploration tasks and perform maintenance tasks as needed.
• Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects.
• Participate in pre-task planning and report any safety issues to management.
• Maintain quality standards on all projects.
• Assist the lead operator in routine exploration tasks and drive medium duty trucks to job sites.
• Operate and maintain drill rigs and associated vehicles and equipment.
• Perform geotechnical and environmental drilling, including soil sampling and in-situ testing.
• Maintain records and file reports.
• Follow OSHA and company safety procedures.
• Conduct verbal communications with clients.

Skills & Qualifications

• Comfortable working outside
• Knowledge in construction preferred but not required
• High School Diploma or GED required

Work Environment

This position involves outdoor field work with exposure to all elements. You should expect 50% regional travel, with a per diem provided for travel days. You will be working as part of a team within an engineering firm that operates multiple offices across the Midwest.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
