Sr. Applications Engineer, FM&I

Job Summary: The Senior Applications Engineer serves as the technical authority for flow meter technology and cloud-connected measurement and fluid management solutions. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and functions as the primary facilitator for complex customer applications, advanced system integrations, and non-standard solution development. The Senior Applications Engineer plays a critical role in supporting strategic sales opportunities, shaping production design direction, and mentoring technical team members.
Job Details
- Analyze complex and non-standard customer applications to define optimal technical solutions and influence commercial strategy during the sales process.
- Serve as a technical lead on high-value or high-risk opportunities, including OEM and enterprise accounts.
- Provide expert guidance on application feasibility, trade-offs, and system-level design decisions.
- Troubleshoot flow meters and cloud-connected products using phone, email, video conferencing, and occasional on-site customer visits.
- Support warranty and return evaluations in collaboration with internal teams.
- Provide real-time (“live”) guidance for installation, configuration, and system setup.
- Act as a final-level escalation resource for advanced technical issues involving hardware, software, and system integration.
- Lead root-cause analysis for recurring or systemic product issues and drive resolution across Engineering, Quality, and Product teams.
- Serve as a technical mentor to Product Technical Support team members.
- Lead or co-develop advanced technical training for internal teams, distributors, and strategic customers.
- Lead system-level troubleshooting involving multiple vendors, protocols, and control architecture frequently involving PLCs, SCADA, Fluid Management Systems (FMS), and control loops.
- Evaluate and recommend non-standard or customized solutions while balancing technical risk, customer value, and business impact.
- Provide structured, actionable feedback to Product Management and Engineering to influence product enhancements and long-term roadmap planning.
- Act as a technical ambassador at trade shows, customer visits, and industry events. Utilize CRM, ERP, and collaboration tools to document activities and customer interactions.
- Serve as a subject-matter resource for Fluid Management System (FMS) software and provide customer technical support.
- Own and drive the creation of advanced application notes, system diagrams, and technical guidance for complex use cases.
- Identify documentation gaps and proactively address them to reduce recurring support issues.

Job Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in applications engineering, technical sales support, or systems engineering supporting flow meters, fluid management systems, or comparable industrial products.
- Demonstrated experience serving as a technical lead or escalation resource in customer-facing environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior experience with CRM and/or ERP for documentation of activities and customer interactions.
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude with the ability to learn specific applications of GPI, GPRO, and FLOMEC products.
- Strong time management skills and ability to balance changing priorities.
- Demonstrated personal motivation with a focus to complete assigned goals.
Preferred
- Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
- Prior experience creating and delivering technical training to a diverse audience.
Job Requirements
Physical
- Travel 10 – 15% to customer locations and trade shows as required.
- Use Webex Contact Center for customer communication via phone and email.
- Ability lift up to 20lbs
- Work at computer station and walking about concrete factory floor for 8+ hours per day.
- Must be able to wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses and other PPE equipment as required for work function.
Working Conditions
- Work at Wichita, KS office.
- Travel 10 – 15% to customer locations and trade shows as required Temperature-controlled office environment.
- Host occasional on-site customer visits including factory tours.
- Exposure to laboratory, manufacturing, warehouse, shipping, and indoor/outdoor customer site environments.
